Maria's Journey
Maria is twenty-two years old, living in poverty in Guatemala. Desperate for change, she says goodbye to her beloved burro and embarks on a dangerous journey across La Frontera — the frontier corridor from Mexico to Texas — searching for freedom.
In Texas, Maria builds a new life. She finds work, makes friends, and falls in love with Miguel. For a time, it seems her dreams have come true.
Then, during a routine traffic stop, everything falls apart. Maria is arrested, detained in Krome Immigration Jail, and deported back to Guatemala.
The story ends with Maria back at La Frontera — ready to begin her journey again. A continuous cycle. A testament to resilience.
